North Cornwall is a fantastic place to explore with a dog. With miles of coastline, countryside walks and plenty of beaches to discover, there are lots of opportunities to get outside together during your stay. If you’re planning a dog-friendly holiday near Bude, here are a few of our favourite ways to explore the area with four-legged family members.
One of the biggest advantages of staying near Bude with a dog is the choice of beaches.
Several beaches around Bude welcome dogs throughout the year, including Sandymouth, Northcott Mouth, Duckpool, Black Rock and Millook. Other popular beaches have seasonal restrictions, so it’s always worth checking the latest information before setting off.
Our closest beach, Sandymouth, is particularly good for dog owners. Dogs are welcome throughout the year when kept under control, with coastal walks to explore from the same area.
We’ve covered the coastline in more detail in our guide to the best beaches near Bude.
The South West Coast Path runs through the area and is a brilliant way to experience North Cornwall with your dog.
From Sandymouth, you can follow the coast towards Duckpool or choose a longer circular walk through the surrounding countryside. Alternatively, pick another section of the coast path and explore at your own pace.
Dogs are welcome along the entire South West Coast Path, although they should be kept under close control around livestock and away from cliff edges.

Bude itself is also easy to include in a dog-friendly holiday. Take a walk beside the canal, explore the town or combine your visit with some time on the coast.
If you’re heading to the main beaches during the warmer months, remember that seasonal restrictions can apply. Summerleaze welcomes dogs throughout the year but has lead requirements at certain times, while Crooklets has seasonal restrictions.
It’s always worth checking the latest local guidance before your visit.
Dogs are very welcome at Broxwater, with up to two well-behaved dogs permitted in each cottage.
Both The Dairy and The Shippon have large private gardens, while Broxwater’s countryside setting gives you plenty of space to enjoy during your stay. After a day exploring beaches and coastal paths, you can return to the peace of the countryside without leaving your dog behind.
